So, 10 boxes of cereal and a Gallon of Milk for $5 or less with your coupons! FYI - Bigg's doesn't double coupons.

Analysis: Royals Trade For Crisp

After trading reliever Leo Nunez for slugging first baseman Mike Jacobs, the Royals were looking for someone for Jacobs to drive in, a table-setter at the top of the order. That's just what they got today when they traded righthanded reliever to the Red Sox for center fielder Coco Crisp.

With Crisp and David DeJesus at the top of the order, and Jacobs, Jose Guillen and Alex Gordon in the middle, the Royals have accomplished a key winter goal of bringing lefty-righty balance to their lineup and building a batting order that can get guys on base for the boppers to bring home, especially if Billy Butler improves against righthanded pitching.

But there is a downside to improving the lineup. Royals GM Dayton Moore knows he's taking a gamble with his second trade of a reliever who was effective in 2008 for a position player, and during the Royals' conference call announcing the trade, I asked him about that.

"I think actually, to trade productive relievers is very, very risky, and what we had to do here with our team is evaluate what we have as far as our position players and what we need to do to make our team better," Moore said. "You and I have spoken before and after the '06 season, we worked hard to improve our starting pitching, and we've done that, and feel like in the deals we've made, we haven't compromised our starting pitching, and that's very important to us. We have compromised our relief corps. We will not be able to replace and Leo Nunez for what we were paying them and the type of production that they gave us. So I'm not going to sit here and run away from that -- we will not be able to replace them for what we were paying them and the type of production they gave us."

It's not often that you'll see a GM willingly admit to having "compromised our relief corps," but that's exactly why I would tend to believe in Moore's judgement here. He had to do something to improve his lineup, and dealt from a position of strength in the bullpen -- while the Royals won't be able to replace Ramirez and Nunez, relievers are notoriously unpredictable, and who's to say that Ramirez and Nunez would have given the Royals the production that they provided this year? Kansas City does have some internal options to feel good about in Robinson Tejeda and 24-year-old righthander Devon Lowery, and the buyer's market for relievers in free agency should benefit Moore as he does reshape his bullpen.

For now, the Royals have given up known for unknown in the bullpen, with the important exceptions of effective lefty setup man Ron Mahay and closer Joakim Soria

"That's the sacrifice we felt we had to make. If we didn't have a guy we felt was reliable, consistent, at times dominant closer -- it speaks to the confidence we have in Joakim. And we've got to make sure we maintain that strength and (give him save situations)," Moore said. "So we've got work to do and we'll look for ways to make it work."

Is Crisp worth the sacrifice? He had his struggles in Boston over the last three years, but seems to be the kind of player who might be helped by both a change of scenery and by no longer hearing his name constantly come up in trade rumors. Crisp was great in the ALCS this year, and should hit well at Kauffman Stadium, where he has six triples in 33 career games.

The other element of this trade is that with Crisp, DeJesus and Guillen, rumors of Mark Teahen's departure from Kansas City are sure to escalate. Talk already has swirled around the "Moneyball" star, with the Cubs and Indians reported to be interested at various times this offseason. If Moore can turn Teahen into some pitching, everything would seem to fall into place for the Royals to take the next step in their improvement.

As for the Red Sox, Jacoby Ellsbury has shown that he's ready to be an everyday player, and Crisp is too good to be a fourth outfielder. Boston may have been able to get more for Crisp had the Red Sox decided to trade him earlier, but adding Ramirez does address a key need in their relief corps. The gamble for the Red Sox is in lacking outfield depth, though Chris Carter hit 24 homers at Triple-A Pawtucket this year and had a solid 6-for-18 showing as a September callup. Also, Kevin Youkilis can play outfield in a pinch -- and may be asked to if Boston makes a big offer to Mark Teixeira. This is just the beginning of what might be a very busy and interesting offseason in New England.

While in the middle of my weekly segment on Talk1410am my computer screen flickered and my Gmail turned blue. Thinking something was amiss, I immediately signed out of my account. Once I logged in again I took notice of a little message at the top of the Gmail window - hello themes!.

by miss604, on Flickr">" class="alignleft"/>I know there are many people who do not like change and I can be the first to admit that it takes me about 2 months to try something after John tells me it’s cool and I should be using it.

No need t worry though, there is a “default” setting that you can still use if you do not like any of the 30 new ways to have your email displayed. This includes picture backgrounds, minimalistic (no lines), animations, dark contrasts, and various colour options. Now if only they would spruce up their labeling system.

In case you miss the message at the top of your Gmail account, you can access the theme browser by going to Settings > Themes. Also it appears the switch has not yet been flipped on Gmail for domains and a few other accounts but the Gmail blog says the change will happen gradually over the next few days.

From the Gmail blog: “We wanted to go beyond simple color customization, so out of the 30 odd themes we’re launching today, there’s a shiny theme with chrome styling, another one that turns your inbox into a retro notepad, nature themes that change scenery over time, weather driven themes that can rain on your mailbox, and fun characters to keep you in good company.”

What are your thoughts on the new Gmail options and while we’re at it… are you one of those people who (still) completely oppose the Facebook layout changes?

Friday: "Dave?" Dave's not here,man."

Tommy Chong is "The Man" tonight at 7:30pm, on ShowTime in "a/k/a Tommy Chong". We get to see just what it's like to be the biggest 'pothead stoner dude' in America & just why the government decided he needed to be in prison because of it. Cheech joins in as they walk down memory (or lack of memory) lane. This is much more interesting than Barbara Walters talking to the he-she. That just makes me want to jump!!!......

Pregnant-Man

Or...

 Arts Images Pics Chong1
The choice is yours.

Did you guys watch "ER" last night? Holy crap! That was just plain scary! They sent us back in time to when Dr. Greene was still breathing and he looked really good. They even made the ER look like it did back in his day. Then they did something a little bizarre. They brought back some of the original cast to make the effect look authentic. They forgot one thing. Those people got OLD!!!

Dr. Weaver steps in to remind Dr. Greene about his chemo treatment & I thought she was Priscilla Presley at first. Her face was so tight, she could barely speak. Then Jerry, the desk clerk, came through Trauma #1 with blood results & I was so happy to see that he's gained as much weight as I have these past five years. He looked older than Frank!! The icing on the cake was the appearance of Dr. Romano!!! He was truly back from the dead & LOOKED it!!! He played his pricky old self, but his true sass was gone. That copter crash must have knocked it out of him. All in all, I loved seeing my old favorites one more time, but it seemed more like "The Twilight's Zone" than a flashback. Nice try NBC.

"Sanctuary" on SciFi has been picked up for another season in 2009, with 13 new episodes. This show is so awesome in the way it uses "green-screen' technology to bring the show to life. I think this will be the way of scifi shows in the future, much like "300". Definitely a "Check It Out!" show.

The rumors are flying that NBC has axed "Lipstick Jungle" (Friday at 10pm) and "My Own Worst Enemy" (Monday at 10pm). They just haven't officially announced it. Like I said, they like to let their mistakes just fade away & hope we don't notice. I'm not surprised about "Lipstick". When they sent it to Friday's death row, I knew it was a goner, but I'm a little surprised about "Enemy". I liked this one. It was exciting and different. I have to admit though, that the last episode had me kind of confused. It was getting complicated, and I had to keep asking: "Is that Edward or is that Henry". Oh well, we still have "Heroes".

Let's check out tonight's list of shows:

ABC:

This is it for tonight. Movies seem to be the best option. "a/k/a Tommy Chong" & "Whale Wars" are my picks. Tomorrow will be an even more mundane line-up. Can't wait!

CA-MTO - "Tea" Wildfire

Brush fire breaks out in hills above Montecito

The blaze forces evacuations and damages some structures in the wealthy Santa Barbara County community, authorities say.
By Catherine Saillant
8:33 PM PST, November 13, 2008
Reporting from Montecito -- A fast-moving brush fire driven by 60- to 70-mph winds erupted in the hills above Montecito in Santa Barbara County, forcing evacuations of some large luxury homes and destroying some structures, authorities said.

The fire broke out about 6 p.m. in the Cold Springs area of Montecito, an area that is home to film stars and other wealthy residents. The fire was moving southwest, according to Geri Ventura, a spokesman for the Department.

Fire departments from Santa Barbara County, the city of Santa Barbara, Montecito and Carpinteria were battling the blaze, along with the California Department of Forestry and other agencies. About 100 firefighters were deployed, Ventura said. State Highway 192 was closed between Cold Springs Road and Hot Springs Road.

Ventura said she did not know how many homes had been lost. An evacuation center has been set up at San Marcos High School, and students at nearby Westmont College were told to gather in the campus gym.

In the hills of Montecito, residents of the darkened streets lit only by the glow from the burning brush could be seen packing up cars and talking with each other. Horse trailers and Porsches snaked their way down narrow, winding mountain roads. The scent of burning eucalyptus filled the air.

From Fox News:

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — A brush fire broke out in the hills above the tony enclave of Montecito on Thursday, forcing some evacuations as gusting winds threatened to spread the blaze further.

The fire began shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday in the foothills five miles south of Santa Barbara, and several fire departments responded to the scene. It was not clear if anyone was injured or any structures were destroyed.

Geri Ventura, a spokesman for the Department, said she did not know how much land had burned, but television images showed the fire had expanded to dozens of acres.

Gusts were being clocked as high as 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

KEYT-TV reported that power lines were down and many residents were evacuating. An emergency shelter was set up at a local high school and students at Westmont College were told to gather in the school's gym.

Montecito has long been a hideaway for the rich and famous where multimillion homes have ocean views. Talk show host Oprah Winfrey owns a 42-acre estate and the landmark Montecito Inn was built in the 1920s by Charlie Chaplin and Fatty Arbuckle.
